1, What is Ocular Iontophoresis?
Ocular iontophoresis is a non-invasive and safe method for driving drug-loaded nanoparticles, including medicine ions and charged macromolecules, into the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. This new technology uses electrical ultrasounds to promote the migration of a substance across ocular tissues with poor permeability. It overcomes barriers to ocular penetration of ophthalmic herbal nanoparticles.
Research shows that transdermal iontophoresis with herbal medicine has demonstrated dramatically increased intraocular concentrations in rabbit ocular tissues compared with topical instillation, including 50- to 100-fold greater aqueous humor concentrations.
2, What is the mechanism of OCU-ION (Ocular Ultrasonic Iontophoresis)?
In this transdermal OCU-ION Ocular Ultrasonic Iontophoresis, cationic therapeutic agents are placed under an anode. Anionic therapeutic agents are under a cathode. When a low voltage and low current density is applied, according to the simple electrorepulsion, ions are repelled into and through the eye tissue. Thus, these herbal nanoparticles stay in the eye longer and, during this period, the medicine is released in a sustained and prolonged manner.
3, Effects of OCU-ION therapy.
It overcomes barriers to ocular penetration of ophthalmic herbal nanoparticles and increases the drug drive to the retina. The iontophoresis herbs are from a special formula. It has the following effects:
- anti-inflammation and maintenance of the optimal ocular microbiome
- dilation of blood vessels in the eyes and facilitating repair of the ocular vascular system
- improvement of blood flow to the retina and increased oxygen and nutrients in the retina
- reduced eye fatigue
- improved central vision acuity
- expansion of peripheral vision
- improved night vision
This device of physical iontophoresis benefits the following retinal disorders
- Retinitis pigmentosa (RP)
- Usher syndrome
- Stargardt disease
- Macular degeneration
- Optic nerve atrophy
4, History of ocular iontophoresis.
The method of iontophoresis was described by Pivati in 1747. Galvani and Vota, two well-known scientists who worked in the 18th century, used their knowledge that the electricity can move different metal ions and the movement of the ions produces electricity. The method of administering pharmacological agents by iontophoresis became popular at the beginning of 20th century due to the work of Leduc (1900) who introduced the term iontotherapy and formulated the laws for this process.
Due to the barriers between the anterior and posterior eye segments, often only very little of the drug is absorbed by the inner eye. In order to solve this challenge and prolong the drug exposure in the retina, we have developed this OCU-ION: the ocular ultrasonic iontophoresis device and a special formula consisting of an iontophoresis herbal bag.
5, What is the OCU-ION iontophoresis herbal bag?
This special formula is made of comfrey, dandelion, chrysanthemum, mint, bupleurum, cassia, climbing groundsel, and caulis akebiae. The effects of this iontophoresis herbal bag include:
- anti-inflammation
- dilation of blood vessels in the eyes
- improvement of blood flow to the retina and increased oxygen and nutrients in the retina
- reduced eye fatigue
- improved t central vision acuity
- expansion of peripheral vision
- improved night vision
6, How to use the iontophoresis herbal bag?
One iontophoresis herbal bag contains 10g herbal powder. Soak one bag in around 200ML hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Normally one bag is good for 3 to 4 days iontophoresis therapy.
7, How long does it take for OCU-ION iontophoresis therapy to work?
In most cases, iontophoresis takes at least 6 months of consistent use for 15 to 30 minutes a day to show results. Sometimes, it can take even longer because different people will have different responses to the same treatment procedure. Generally speaking, people with better original vision get a faster response.
8, Warranty
There is a 90-day replacement warranty on any defective units (based on normal wear and tear), but you need to pay the shipping fee to China.
9, Contraindications
- Open wound around the eyes
- acute eye infection
- Skin infections or allergies on the face
- Apply OCU-ION ultrasonic iontophoresis to unhygienic eyes. Be sure to clean eye make-up before use, otherwise the therapy might carry the chemical toxins into the eyes.
